The LGBTI focused Counselling service, where everyone is welcome is also accessible via phone or video call right across the NT!
At NTAHC there is a small counselling practice established, specifically aimed at clients from the LGBTQIA community as well as NTAHC’s target populations. The practice is temporarily run by a new counsellor Chloe McCarthy.
They are a Queer, Non-Binary person who is of Egyptian and Irish background.
Chloe holds a Masters of Social Work, a post-graduate degree in Narrative Therapy and they are halfway through a three year Somatic Experiencing Course. They have been a counsellor for 5 years and before that worked supporting young people and adult who have experienced trauma as a social worker.
Chloe’s primary interest’s and skill set includes – gender and sexuality exploration, anxiety and depression, self-esteem issues, low mood and disconnection to life, existential issues, relationship distress and healing from systemic harm and other trauma’s including sexual assault and family and domestic violence.
They always practice from a trauma informed perspective and are guided by anti-oppressive frameworks and empowering principles.
To refer, either the client or referrer can contact Chloe via email to then arrange a short phone call to discuss suitability and availability. Where there is a conflict of interest or incompatibility then every effort will be made to re-fer onto other more appropriate support services.
People can be referred to see Chloe if they are experiencing mild mental health concerns, for either short term therapy or longer term (10 + sessions).
