NTAHC Ambassadors

NTAHC Ambassadors are people who recognise the importance of raising awareness around blood borne viruses (BBVs) and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).


NTAHC Ambassadors are formal representatives of NTAHC who have the knowledge, skills, attributes and determination to influence Territorians to engage in safe sexual practices and regular testing.

 

To become an NTAHC Ambassador you must demonstrate that you:

  • Stand up, speak out and act to prevent BBV and STI transmission.
  • Have an understanding of the issue of BBVs and STIs, and the importance of safe sexual practices and regular testing.
  • Currently engage and influence men in the prevention of men’s violence against women
  • Have undertaken the formal Ambassador approval process including:

 

NTAHC Ambassadors represent NTAHC in their communities by undertaking some of the following activities that suit their knowledge, skills, networks and availability:

  • Wearing their Ambassador badge and engaging in regular conversations about preventing men’s BBV and STI transmission
  • Hosting, funding, speaking and/or attending awareness raising and fundraising events
  • Professional and personal networking to expand the reach of the NTAHC health promotion messages
  • Promoting the NTAHC health promotion messages through social media in accordance with NTAHC’s Media Policy
  • Promoting community involvement in NTAHC events


Our Ambassadors

Former Lord Mayor Katrina Fong Lim


Katrina was born in 1961 in Darwin, the fourth of six daughters of respected local couple Alec and Norma Fong Lim. Alec was a businessman who became  Lord  Mayor of Darwin  in  the  1980s. Katrina completed her primary and secondary education in Darwin, graduating from Darwin High School in 1979.
She was an AFS1 Exchange Student to the USA for the 1978-79 school year.

 

Katrina worked for thirteen years with the Commonwealth Public Service, undertaking a variety of jobs in a range of government departments. She then left the Public Service to work in the not for profit sector where she worked for 20 years including time at the YWCA, Crafts Council, NT Centenary of Federation and most recently as the Executive Director of Australia Day Council NT.

 

Katrina has a Bachelor of Business with a double major in Human Resource Management and Marketing. She also holds a Master of Professional Accounting from the University of Southern Queensland. Katrina operated a small business in Darwin, initially delivering Financial Management Training to builders through the Master Builders Association NT.

 

Katrina was voted Lord Mayor of Darwin in April 2012, and together with twelve elected Aldermen, will lead the 21st Council of Darwin for a period of four years.


Katrina lives with her husband Tony Waite in Nightcliff. She names her family as her strongest supporters and influencers, with the values and ethics instilled by her late father Alec Fong Lim still guiding her today.

Casey Conway


Now based on the Gold Coast, easy-going Casey, who is the middle child in a family of five boys, is a born mediator. He’s put those skills to good use having spent many years as a youth worker working with at-risk teens and young people. In his time, Casey has seen it all – mentoring youths who have battled everything from physical and sexual abuse, homelessness, uncontrollable on-line gaming habits and raging ice addictions.


Casey’s Aboriginal mother is descended from the Barada people. His family experienced the painful legacy of the stolen generation, and they have actively worked to overcome the adversity that has filtered down on an intergenerational level.


As an Aboriginal person in the public eye, Casey is determined to honour his heritage and be a positive influence on young people - not only through his youth work, but also by being a healthy role model in his modelling campaigns promoting vitality, an active lifestyle and a positive body image.
