World AIDS Day on 1 December brings together people from around the world to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and demonstrate international solidarity in the face of the pandemic.
World AIDS Day, also known as Red Ribbon Day, falls on 1 December. The red ribbon serves as a symbol of our empathy towards individuals who we have lost to HIV, those currently living with HIV, and our commitment to stamping out the social stigma associated with it.
For NTAHC’s World AIDS Day 2024, the theme "How will you help end HIV stigma?" is a powerful call to action that encourages personal reflection and collective responsibility. It prompts individuals, communities, and organisations to consider specific steps they can take to confront and reduce HIV-related stigma, which has persisted for over 40 years. This theme aligns with NTAHC’s goals of fostering inclusive support, raising awareness, and driving change by inviting everyone to contribute to ending HIV stigma in their own ways—whether through educating others, supporting those living with HIV, or challenging stigmatizing language and behaviors.
In essence, it’s a theme that shifts the conversation to action—how each person can actively participate in creating a stigma-free society and supporting NTAHC’s mission. By focusing on personal contributions to ending stigma, NTAHC’s 2024 campaign seeks to mobilise and empower people across Northern Territory to join events, share resources, and amplify messages of acceptance and understanding.
On World AIDS Day, show your respect and support by wearing a red ribbon. By doing so, you can contribute towards the ongoing work of the NT AIDS and Hepatitis Council (NTAHC) as all donations received from the sale of these red ribbons go back to NTAHC.
